This article provides basic ideas and steps for creating a fall bulletin board in the preschool classroom.

Seasonal bulletin boards can be fun for the whole class. Use classroom wall space to create a fantastic student made art display, post photographs, or simply welcome in the new season. Try to create a fall bulletin board around themes and concepts that are discussed in class. Storybooks made an excellent starting point for interesting classroom displays.

Fall Tree Bulletin Board

Create a colorful fall tree using classroom photographs, paper and natural materials. This unique display includes lessons in self/identity, nature and the environment, and the seasons. Make sure to enlist the students as helpers.

  • Cover the bulletin board with simple blue paper. This will be the sky.
  • Attach a long strip of brown paper as the tree trunk. Add several smaller strips as branches.
  • Take the class outside to collect fall leaves. Try to find a variety of shapes, sizes, and colors.
  • Glue the leaves to the paper near the tree branches. If needed, add in some paper made leaves.
  • Attach a photograph of each child to the branches.

Fall Weather Clothing Bulletin Board

This bulletin board display will help young children to think about the weather outside. Begin by asking the class what the fall weather feels like. Discuss what type of clothing would appropriate to wear. Examples include jeans, sweaters, or jackets.

  • Cover the bulletin board with a fall colored paper such as red, orange, or yellow.
  • Use a stencil to trace letters with a fall message such as, "Welcome Fall!" or, "Fall Weather". Cut the letters out, and then post them at the top of the board. T
  • Take photographs of the children in outside wearing appropriate fall clothing. Attach the photographs to the bulletin board.
  • Add paper leaves throughout the display.

Fall Art Display Bulletin Board

Try displaying child made seasonal artwork on a prominent bulletin board. Choose one specific art activity, or include multiple different art projects on one board. For example, mix and match collages, paintings, and fall drawings by the class on one space.

  • Cover the bulletin board in seasonal colors. An alternative idea is to give the class a plain white sheet of butcher paper. Ask the children to paint it using fall colors. Once dry, it can be hung up as a bulletin board background.
  • Add child made artwork to the display. Create simple mattes for the artwork by gluing the projects onto poster board that is cut to a slightly larger size.

Classroom bulletin boards can be useful display tools. Create a fun fall board this season that shows off student artwork, photographs, or bright autumn colors.
