Preschool bulletin boards with festive themes are a great way to welcome the holiday season in the classroom. Below are some easy Christmas bulletin board display ideas.

One of the best ways to deck out a classroom for the holidays is by creating wonderful holiday preschool bulletin boards. With winter and seasonal themes, a school holiday bulletin board can be interactive and educational as well as decorative. Whether a teacher wants to use Christmas display ideas or non-secular winter decor, preschool bulletin boards will be a great addition to the classroom. Here are two great holiday bulletin board designs.

Holiday Preschool Bulletin Boards Based on The Mitten

This wonderful winter-themed, holiday preschool bulletin board design will be an educational and interactive project for the entire preschool class. Here are the steps for making this Christmas bulletin board display:

  1. Place white paper onto the preschool bulletin board as a snowy background.
  2. Add a forest of evergreen trees and birch using colored markers.
  3. Make a large mitten out of white or light gray construction paper.
  4. Glue felt “pockets” of varying colors to the mitten to create a pattern.
  5. Create coloring pages of each animal character from The Mitten story by Jan Brett [Putnam Juvenile, 1989].
  6. Instruct the students to color an animal page, cut it out, and slip into the mitten pockets.
  7. Optionally, animal tracks (footprints) can be drawn (or pre-drawn/cut) and added to the bulletin board display.

This Christmas display will provide young students with some opportunities to learn about animals, winter, and a classic children’s holiday story. Students can be treated to a reading of The Mitten. Teachers can also talk about the characteristics of each woodland creature in the story, as well as how to track animal footprints in the snow.

Hot Chocolate Holiday Preschool Bulletin Boards

The creation of a hot chocolate holiday bulletin board will be a delicious holiday craft activity for preschool students. Children can be treated to a wonderful hot chocolate snack while building their classroom preschool Christmas display. The steps to building the hot chocolate bulletin board are:

  1. Cover the bulletin board with silver or gold Christmas wrapping paper.
  2. Create coffee mugs out of construction paper in Christmas colors, or white paper that the kids can color.
  3. Kids can write their names or a short Christmas message on their mugs with glitter glue.
  4. Once the mugs are finished, place them on the bulletin board display.
  5. Children can add their favorite yummy treats to the top of the hot chocolate cups, such as marshmallows (cotton balls), whipped cream (tissue paper), and candy canes (real or drawn).
  6. Sprinkle bulletin board with small paper Christmas cookie decorations.
  7. To create a steamy effect, cut skinny strips of white paper (1 cm x 30 cm), curl them with the side of a pair of scissors, and glue them to the tops of the hot chocolate mugs.
  8. Another idea for steam is to use white pipe cleaners. Wrap them around a pencil to curl them, and then add them to the mugs.

Create a classroom display for the holidays with young children this season. Creating holiday preschool bulletin boards will be a wonderful way to learn about the holiday season and winter while honing fine motor skills through coloring, cutting, pasting, and writing. Holiday bulletin board designs can be created interactively with the kids and will be an impressive classroom decoration that preschoolers can be excited and proud of this Christmas.
