Monkey, music and museum all begin with the letter Mm. Here are easy and simple activities to teach children about the letter Mm.
Learning about the letter Mm has never been more exciting and interesting. The activities a teacher can plan are endless and can really make school an enjoyable place to learn. Here are some great lessons to help make learning about the letter Mm fun and exciting. Letter Mm Items From HomeChildren can bring in items that start with the letter Mm to the class on Monday morning. Here are some ideas of items to be brought in: a picture or a stuffed monkey, Mars bar, moon, a picture of Mom, money, menu, mouse, mail, mug, map, mat, marshmallows and muffins. Classroom Activities for the Letter MmLetter Mm Chart: As a group discuss all the items brought to class and print each on a chart paper. Beside each word draw a picture of the object. This chart will be helpful for other printing activities completed throughout the week. Uppercase Letter M Monkey Activity: Give each child a cut out of a monkey on brown construction paper with an uppercase letter M printed on the front. Ask each child to glue paper squares on the letter. Ask the child what word or words start with the letter M and print those on the monkey. Lowercase Letter m Money Activity: Give each student a cut out of a large coin either on yellow, brown or grey construction paper with a lowercase letter m printed on the front. Ask the student to glue paper squares on the m and give an example of an item starting with the letter m. Money Activity: Show students two or three currencies from other countries. Talk about what are similarities and differences between each currencies. Ask student to record in his or her journal the coin or bill he or she liked the best. Picture of Mom Activity: Have each student draw and colour a picture of Mom or Grandma making his or her favourite meal. Write at the bottom of page what meal is Mom or Grandma making? Welcome Placemat Activity: As a class discuss how to make someone welcomed when coming to your house. What do Mom and Dad’s do to get ready for company? Have each student make a Welcome placemat to place at the his or her dinner table. Children are welcomed to make more mats to take home if he or she has time to do so. Teachers can laminate the mats before sending home. Manners Discussion: As a class explain what manners are and find out what each child knows about good manners. Make a chart of the answers. Song and Rhymes: Have students recite the nursery rhyme of Mary Had a Little Lamb. Students can have fun singing the songs Do you Know the Muffin Man and Five Little Monkeys Jumping on the Bed. Internet Resource: At DTLK Teach teachers can find many fun and easy crafts, puzzles and mini books to help reinforce the letter M. Items to Taste Test: Try tasting a Mars bar, marshmallows, maple syrup, mangos, muffins, mustard, matzoth balls, mashed potatoes, meatloaf, a mug of hot chocolate or warm milk to name a few. These activities are easy to plan and provide a wealth of learning about the letter Mm.
